Phoenix Listed As One Of 32 Possible 2026 World Cup Host Cities

October 4, 2017 -- Today, the United Bid Committee of the United States, Canada, and Mexico has announced 32 cities as possible 2026 World Cup Host Cities.

25 of those 32 cities are located in the United States and Phoenix is one of them.

The process of identifying Official World Cup Host Cities was announced in early August when the United Bid Committee listed 44 cities as possible locations. All of the cities responded to the United Bid Committee except for Calgary, Green Bay, and San Diego.

In addition to the 25 cities in the U.S., three are in Mexico and four are in Canada. During the week of November 13, representatives from the 32 potential cities will travel to Houston for a working session.

All of this depends on whether or not the U.S., Canada, and Mexico will host the 2026 World Cup. That will be decided on June 13, 2018, and the only competition is coming from Morocco.

In the greater Southwest region of the U.S., Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Salt Lake City, and Denver all made the 25 city list offering soccer fans in Arizona the chance to catch some matches following a short flight or easy drive.

Now, all we have to do it wait and hope the 2026 World Cup comes to North America.
